Tim de Gier (Utrecht, 1983) is chef digitaal en schrijver voor Vrij Nederland en momenteel Fellow van de Nieman Foundation for Journalism aan Harvard.
Opgeleid als politicoloog in Amsterdam en Berlijn, heeft hij de laatste jaren de digitale strategie van Vrij Nederland vormgegeven en geschreven over technologie, literatuur en politiek. Tot zijn favoriete onderwerpen behoren onder meer de Europese Crisis, de Occupy en Indignadoz bewegingen, de opkomst van nieuw links en de politiek van de internet revolutie.
In 2011 begon hij samen met Toine Donk en Ernst-Jan Pfauth de podcast Literaturfest. De podcast werd al snel een theatershow in de Rode Hoed en een rondreizend circus langs festivals en boekenclucs. Te gast in de show waren onder meer David Sedaris, Femke Halsema, Donna Tartt en Edgar Keret.
Tim de Gier woont momenteel in Cambridge, Massachusetts waar hij als Fellow verbonden is aan de Nieman Foundation for Journalism. Zijn onderzoek richt zich op de politiek van het internet.

Tim de Gier (Utrecht, 1983) is a journalist working for Vrij Nederland Magazine and a Fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard.
Educated as a political scientist, he’s leading Vrij Nederland’s digital strategy and writing about technology, literature and politics. Amongst the subjects that he covered in the last years are the European Crisis, the Occupy and Indignadoz movements, the rise of the new left and the politics of the internet revolution.
In 2011 he and two friends started Literaturfest, a literary podcast that turned into a live theatre-show. In the show guests like David Sedaris, Donna Tartt, Gary Shteyngart and Edgar Keret talked about their favorite books. Literaturfest hosted evenings in De Rode Hoed, a venue in Amsterdam and traveled to festivals and events.
Tim de Gier currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he works as a fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism. His research focusses on the politics of the internet.
